"My struggle"
Vienna around 1910: where history had its tragic beginning.
The paths of two men who could not be more different cross in Blutgasse: The Jewish bookseller Schlomo Herzl and the young, boorish provincial Adolf Hitler, who fails at the art academy with mediocre watercolours. Out of a deep understanding of charity, Herzl takes the awkward Hitler under his wing, cares for him and even gives him the title for his book: "Mein Kampf".
A surreal witching hour George Tabori's masterpiece is a desperate clownish piece in the spirit of Beckett. It breaks with all norms, dissolves values and shows with wicked humour the ominous dependency between perpetrator and victim. In this special production by the Deutsch-Sorbisches Volkstheater Bautzen, directed by Tim Heilmann, the horror finds a ghostly counterpart:
Hitler acts as a puppet, led by the residents of a men's hostel.
This choice is part of the programme: a Hitler does not exist without his "fellow players". The play thus becomes a powerful memorial to the responsibility of each individual in the fight against inhuman forces.
- Special feature: First adult production by Tim Heilmann at the Puppet Theatre.
- Service: There will be an introduction to the play 30 minutes before the performance begins.
