German-Polish Forum ‘Culture for Sustainable Development’
2 October 2026, 10.00–18.00, RABRYKA, Görlitz

Sustainability is not just an environmental and economic challenge, but also a cultural one: how do we want to live? How can we come to see change as a positive development? With its 17 Sustainable Development Goals, the United Nations has created a global framework that brings together environmental, economic and social issues.

Cultural institutions play a key role in this: as spaces for experimentation, debate and social imagination, they actively help shape the necessary change.

What specific role can cultural actors play in this? What might the approaches look like? The ‘Culture for Sustainable Development’ forum invites participants to explore these questions together in a practical way. Short presentations and interactive workshops will focus, amongst other things, on
• the 17 Sustainable Development Goals in the context of cultural work,
• sustainability and cultural education,
• ESD and environmental standards in the socio-cultural sector,
• sustainable event development.
Further contributions are being sought.

Presenting projects and networking: A ‘Market of Opportunities’ provides a space to showcase practical projects and approaches and to learn from one another. Anyone wishing to present their own project or organisation is welcome to contact Kalina Bader (kalina.bader@rabryka.eu).

The forum is aimed in particular at directors of cultural institutions and those involved in cultural education, as well as civil society actors who wish to play an active role in shaping change. It will be held in German and Polish with simultaneous interpretation.
Participation is free of charge; it is funded by the European Union as part of the ‘Interreg Poland-Saxony 2021–2027’ cooperation programme.

RABRYKA is organising the forum in cooperation with, amongst others, the Jelenia Góra Cultural Centre, Tierra – Eine Welt, the Saxony State Association for Sociocultural Affairs, the Upper Lusatia–Lower Silesia Cultural Region, Steinhaus Bautzen, Engagierte Stadt Görlitz and the St. Marienthal International Meeting Centre Foundation.
