The Bundesjazzorchester (BUJAZZO) is the top young jazz orchestra in Germany. The Bujazzo has been an important and sought-after career stage for young jazz musicians for 37 years. After passing the audition, each member is accepted into the Bujazzo programme for a maximum of two years. New talents then join the big band, which is regarded in the jazz scene as a springboard for a successful musical career. Jazz greats such as Till Brönner, Tom Gaebel, Julia Hülsmann, Jakob Manz, Johanna Summer, Nils Wogram, Alma Naidu and Michael Wollny started their careers here.
Since the summer of 2025, the big band has been under the artistic direction of Theresia Philipp from Saxony. The "As We Go" programme features music with collective energy and strong individual voices from all over Germany.
As We Go" is all about musical exchange, encounters and openness. The music reflects diversity, not as a fixed concept, but as an organic process: sometimes political, sometimes personal, always characterised by curiosity and spontaneity. Jazz offers the space to respect traditions, but not to stick to them.
